St. Virgin - Star of the sea Kolka roman catholic church
More than 900 years have passed since the first Catholic church was built in Kolka. Later there were no churches of this confession for centuries, also during the times of Latvian Republic.
Roman Catholic congregation formed in Kolka in 1992-1997; it needed its own church. In July 1997 with the acceptance of the Liepājadiocese bishop Ārvalds Andrejs Brumanis under the guidance of the priest Andrejs Mediņš the wooden log church of Sakas Grīņi (1935) was disassembled. Till the October 4 it was rebuilt in Kolka; the windows, floor and the roof were reconstructed, and a tower was attached (architect Marija Zēberga, construction foreman Viktors Šepeļevs). The furnishings of the altar were changed, but the confessional has remained from Grīņi.
Ā. A. Baumanis consecrated the church in honour of the Blessed Virgin Maria - the Star of the Sea in August 22.
