The house was built in a structure of horizontal wooden logs in 1842 and it was the first school in Dundaga area (closed in 1964). It is the oldest preserved school of log building construction in Kurzeme.

The folklore specialist Krišjānis Barons studied in the school, but the writer and educationalist Ernests Dinsbergs worked as a teacher there from 1838 till 1878. An oak-tree planted by E.Dinsbergs still grows next to the school building. In 1972 E.Dinsberg memorial museum was opened here.
