The peculiarities of the climate in Dundaga municipaliy is one of the factors influencing the length of the tourism season, especially in the territories where the main activities are connected with the nature resources.

The Baltic Sea and Gulf of Riga running deep into the territory of Latvia influence significantly the climate of Latvia and Dundaga municipaliy. The influence can be mostly felt in the coastal regions where the variation of the temperature is less often observed. Because of the fact that the sea water has accumulated large amounts of heat during summer, the winters and autumns are usually warmer there than in the centre. On the other hand, due to the conditions that the water in the sea gets warm slower than on the land, springs and summers are colder on the coast, therefore apple-trees, lilacs and other plants blossom much later on the coast than in the central areas.

The most suitable time for visiting Dundaga municipaliy is starting from the end of May when the snow has already melted, migratory birds returned back and the plants are in blossom. The tourism season lasts till the end of September before the first frost when the air temperature is high enough for making trips and hikes.
